A dining room is the center of a home’s social life. It’s the ideal place to have holiday meals, family game nights, or just a meal with your friends, so how you decorate it should reflect you and the way you use it. Here are some of my tips on designing your dream dining room.
Determine the function of the room
Understanding the function of the room you are going to decorate, will help you to make the right choice of furniture and accessories. Everyone has their own idea of entertaining; some enjoy large parties while others enjoy intimate gatherings. Consider the number of seats you will need for your ideal party. Will you need extra storage for silverware and dishes? Do you prefer large group conversations or inmate conversations? Once you have answered these questions you can start planning on how you will achieve your dining room goals.
Round tables are ideal for smaller parties. You are easily able to engage with everyone at the table since everyone is facing the center. Traditional rectangle tables optimize the size of the room and provide plenty of space for everyone. For homes with kids, nieces, nephews, or grandkids, a bench on one side of the table is a convenient place for them to sit.
Set up a focal point
The dining table in your room should serve as the focal point in the room. This will attract everyone to the table and ignite them to socialize with others around them. Accessorize your table with runners, table covers, candles, and other fun centerpieces. Once the table is set up, you can focus on decorating the rest of the room to complement it.
Create a Conversation Starter
The dining room is a place for conversations. Adding wall art to the room, such as paintings, murals, or mirrors, is one of the easiest ways to spark some conversations among your guests. You can also use this opportunity to personalize your room with some memorabilia- pieces of art inherited furnishing or antique decorations.
Try different textures and colors
Your dining room is the perfect opportunity to experiment with textures and colors. These days you can find any pattern of wallpaper which sometimes is easier to install than paint. Try adding an accent wall with either a different pattern or color.
Find the Right Lighting
Lighting fixtures can turn a typical dining room into an attractive one. There are lots of choices from geometric chandeliers to rectangle lanterns. Choose one that speaks to you and matches the theme of your room.
Using these tips, you should be on the right path to creating a beautiful functioning dining room for your family. If you still aren’t sure where to begin, contact me, Kiran Arif at (513) 549-7749 to set up a consultation.
